Ang Saya sa Sangyaw Festival!

Sangyaw Festival is a religious and socio-cultural event in the Philippines. It was revived in 2008 by the city government of Tacloban, Philippines. Sangyaw means "to herald news" in Waray language. Various festival-participants from different parts of the country participate in this tribal procession.

ORIGIN

The Sangyaw festival is religious in origin because it symbolizes a ritual of thanking Sto Nino for all the blessing he showered upon us. The Sangyaw means " To announce or herald a news" in the Waray dialect. It was made by Imelda Marcos in 1976 and was abolished by Cori Aquino on 1986.

ACTIVITIES
There are many activities that are observed during the Sangyaw festival and one of it is the parade of lights. The contingents of this parade are the barangays and participating schools.
During the parade of lights, there are thousands of spectators in the streets. You can see colorful floats that are fully lighted. The costumes of the performers are also well designed and also come with lights. The floats depicted the cities natural and marine resources. Additionally, there is a street dancing competition during the parade and the winner of this can bring a large amount of cash.
